 Team Chess League

Russell's

 MISSION 1

Establish and grow the YOUTH division of the Team Chess League

The objectives of starting the Youth division are to

*Replace the natural impulsiveness in their mindset with foresight and strategy.

*Create an atmosphere of positive social interaction.

*Have them earn prizes by learning, playing, and even just watching a game

That's still considered learning the game, watching all four players move...

*Strengthen family bonds by rewarding them with mothers day/fathers day gifts and cards,

as well as parent birthdays and Christmas

*Expose them to outside guests and activities

*Slip in scholastic and general knowledge information in conversation

bring in items of interest such as

Jackie Robinson's bat, a 2 lb hunk of lava, a handheld video game from 1978, etc

*Give them the respect as if an adult.

MISSION 2

Establish and grow the VETERAN division of the Team Chess League

.

The objectives of starting the Veteran division are to

*Bring veterans together in a positive, socially enriching atmosphere

*Reward veterans with prizes of a life-enriching nature

*Create a way for the public to show their appreciation by providing the prizes

*Establish interdivisional tournaments with the other 3 divisions

*Target homeless veterans and let them easily earn prizes of a "getting back on their feet" nature,

giving the person the dignity of winning them instead of taking a handout.

                             Clothing/Hair/grocery gift cards

                             Water/Electric bill vouchers

                              6-month TARC passes

                              Used cars

A welcome task will be to explore the possibilities.

Anonymity is important here, no one needs to be known as homeless...

The game will also be a very good way to welcome veterans from active duty.

The weekly gatherings will be a treasure trove of support from those that understand.

MISSION 3

Establish and grow the SENIOR division of the Team Chess League

The objectives of starting the Senior division are to

                    *Interact with the youth division

once both had grown and established themselves.

The common bonds between them will be knowing the game

and having to work together to earn prizes.

Both age groups will benefit from the interaction

*Put prizes into every senior citizen's hands.

                    Grocery gift cards, clothes vouchers.

As with the potential prize list of the youth division, the positive possibilities are endless.

*Combat senior boredom and loneliness by giving all a place to go

and become a fun time in their week to look forward to

MISSION 4

Establish and grow the CHILD/PARENT division of the Team Chess League

.

The objectives of starting the CHILD/PARENT division are to

*Strengthen the bond between child and parents

*Intensify practice at home for the youth, giving someone at home to play with

*Get household and family life enriching prizes into the hands of the parent

*Take the possible impulsiveness out of the parental mindset

*Boost the morale of the parents by earning prizes

How can a game enhance the quality of life of a community?

The Russell's Team Chess League has a series of goals.

BROOKLYN'S FIRST DAY PLAYING CHESS April 4th, 2018

Brooklyn reacts to her first day playing chess with Russell's Youth team Chess Club at the Baxter Community Center in Louisville, KY.

The Chess Club meets Thursdays at 4pm to 6pm. Brooklyn won a Duncan Imperial yo-yo and a radio controlled car, not bad for her first day!

The crew loved drummin',

but to the board, they went a runnin',

once the last drum beat went away...

D'ANDRE TEACHES LAURA

Laura is a teacher that brought over volunteer students to serve dinner to the youth at the Baxter Community center.

She visited our table and got some chess lessons from D'andre,

my very first student and the most motivated.

DARYNELL MAYES CHESS CLUB OBSERVATION

ELDERLY white man?!

Mr. Mayes is a no punches pulled kind of guy that exudes a genuine confidence that comes with always doing the right thing. Helluva guy that is loved by all.

He cares about the kids and it is displayed by the controlled fervency in which he talks to the them.

1st EVER VETERAN DIVISION TEAM CHESS LEAGUE GAME 4/20/18

Jerry and Michael (Black Team)  square off with out-of-town NABVET representatives Chuck and Ken at a hybrid event hosted by the Louisville area NABVETS chapter at the Hotel Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky

RUSSELL'S TEAM CHESS LEAGUE SENIOR DIVISION LAUNCH

Our first game was a blast, Herman and Reginald pocketed 25$ each in team chess,

with Sandra and Jo Anne earning 5 bucks each for learning the basic moves of the pieces. The lady that was their ride was rewarded with a gift card as well for waiting and watching. We find a way for everyone to have a good time!

COL PAMELA STEVENSON TALKS ABOUT TEAM CHESS

Colonel Stevenson served 27 years in the Air Force as a lawyer and leader.

She retired as a Colonel and returned home to serve her community.

This is someone you can believe.

AHMAD REACTS TO MOTHERS DAY GIFT IDEA 4/26/18

Ahmad shares his opinion on the Chess Club and my idea to supply the kids with a nice artificial flower arrangement and a $20 discount voucher for the families utility bill to give them a feeling of helping with the household...

Cortez and D'andre went up against Brookelyn and Ahmad

in a well-played match that ended in a draw due to time constraints.

The order of prize selection was determined with the flipping of an Eisenhower dollar. Watchers of the game selected from the lower tier of prizes and selected sunglasses and wearable night safety reflectors.

Mother's Day Gift Bundle Time!  May 10, 2018

I supplied the kids with a "make your own" Mother's Day gift bundle table for their Moms. This was done the Thursday before Mothers day. It was heartwarming to see them try to get the best stuff for their moms. I told them it was a reward for having my back and helping me prove to the world that kids will learn and play chess for prizes.

DERRICK SINGS THE BLUES TO THE CHESS CREW

Singer/songwriter Derrick Wade Manley picks an old blues song to debut at the Baxter Youth Team Chess club. This was the start of a great relationship between him and us...

TERRI HAS FOUND HER PASSION IN LIFE

Derrick watches as Terri braves a second bellowing for her to get going long enough to get a few more strums in. That's dedication!

BAXTER TEAM CHESS CREW GO TOE TO TOE

Cortez and Dre take on aged veterans Jerry and Derrick and hold their own.

Well done, young men!

DERRICK WADE MANLEY DOES DYLAN WITH THE BAXTER CHESS CREW

Derrick Wade Manley plays for The Baxter Community Youth Team Chess Crew at their Thursday afternoon gathering from 4 until 6pm

DERRICK WADE MANLEY SINGS TO THE BAXTER CHESS CREW

Our very first guest to the Baxter Community Center Youth Team Chess League Thursday Meet up was a strumming success! He and the kids got along like old friends... It was plain to see that it was good for the kids and him...

Good News, he said he will be coming back and with more instruments,

maybe with some musicians attached...

SO LONG DERRICK, TIME FOR CHESS!

The Crew gets some hands-on time with the six-string at the end of Derrick Wade Manley's Jam session. Once we decided it was game time everyone made haste for the chess piece-movin' place

SIMMER DOWN

Once in a while, the game gets heated by the love of it and I have to use one of many reasons to chill. I use the "hey, I'm shooting video here" when it situationally applies. Bullying, mocking, berating, roughhousing, cheating and just plain being mean are considered lame and not tolerated by the group in general.

PRIZE DRAFT PICKS 051718

Cortez works himself into position to get his hands on the cool Wilson all-weather football he had his eye on for a couple of weeks. You can hear Mr. King in the background echoing what Cortez is to say, and the foreboding gym echo made it sound like it was from above, cracking us all up!

DRUM SESSION FOR BAXTER COMMUNITY CENTER CHESS CREW

May 31, 2018

The crew of The Baxter Community Youth Team Chess Club in Louisville KY got to bang around on some drums for the first time thanks to Derrick Wade Manley of the band Bottomsop!

The crew loved drummin',

but to the board, they went a runnin',

once the last drum beat went away...
